Нарязаният на дребно лук и нарязаните на кубчета зелен фасул, моркови и целина се задушава в мазнина. Прибавят се последователно нарязаните на ивици зеле, нарязаните на кубчета тиквички и картофи, част от доматите, нарязани на дребно и се задушават . Прибавят се дрено нарязаният магданоз, смленият черен пипер и почистеният и измит ориз. Слагат се подправките и се налива гореща вода до набъбване на оризът. Сместа се изсипва в тава на дъното на която са  наредени на пластове останалите домати. Завършва се с пласт домати. Мусаката се залива с бешамелов сос, приготвен от леко запърженото брашно, млякото и яйцата, поръсва се с настърган кашкавал и се пече при умерена температура до зачервяване
